good morning. it is 4:25 on this monday, may 7th. taking a live look at the jefferson memorial. temperatures not too bad out there. good morning. i'm sarah simmons. >> i'm a will thomas. welcome to fox 5 morning news. why don't we start with weather. tucker barnes, good morning to you. >> good morning. we are generally looking fine. we have clouds across the area and a little bit of fog and drizzle in some areas. should be kind of of a repeat

from yesterday with lots of clouds around and relatively cool temperatures. but we are not expecting much in the way of rain. look at all that flashing out there is a cold front and warm front out there. that will start to move in late are tonight and during the day tomorrow. we've got high pressure off to the north and east protecting us for the day today. just like yesterday, i think we'll start the day with clouds and then we'll see a few breaks in the clouds touring the course of the day with a little bit of sunshine this afternoon. we'll deal with all of that mess you see out to the west as we get into our tuesday and wednesday. all right. temperature right now at reagan national, 58 degrees. 58 at reagan national. our forecast high today, we are in the low 70s. 72 for your afternoon high. so temperatures a few degree below normal. more details of the forecast coming up in a couple of minutes. back to you guys. >> thank you. in our top stories, a rockville man kidnapped in pakistan last year has popped up in an al-qaeda video.

70-year-old warren weinstein appears on the video saying his life is in the hands of president barack obama and asks the president to get him released. one of al-qaeda's demands is for the u.s. to stop air strikes on targets in the middle east. france has a new president. president obama called the new president-elect congratulating him on the win. he said he looks forward to working with him on shared economic and security challenges. the new president has promised to pull back on austerity measures set in motion about president sarkozy. prince harry is in tune to wounded with visit residents at

bridge. starting off nice and easy out of germantown along 270. they picked up the roadwork. you will find the lanes are open, no problems to report in virginia as you work your way along the beltway traveling between annandale and merrifield. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. breaking news this morning on a maryland hostage in pakistan. he lived in rockville and was kidnapped last year. >> we are hearing from warren weinstein in a video from al- qaeda. >> reporter: this is the first time that warren weinstein was seen on video since he was kidnapped from his residence in pakistan in august of 2011. this new 40-second video posted

the newsroom. back to you. >> thank you. the. also new this morning, a u.s. air strike took out this top al-qaeda leader. he has been on the fbi's most wanted list. he was killed by a drone strike in yemen yesterday. he was wanted for his role in the bombing of the u.s.s. coal in yemen back in 2000. seventeen american sailors were killed in the tax. a second al-qaeda operative was also reportedly killed in the u.s. air strike. french voters elect a new leader making nicholas car sewsy the first one-term president since 1981. he lost yesterday's run off election to president-elect oland. the white house says obama told him he looks forward to work together on shared economic and security challenges. tomorrow, voters in north carolina, indiana and west virginia head to the polls for

their president yam primaries. mitt romney and barack obama are already presumed to be the candidates for their parties. we are now less than six months away from the presidential election. it may not have been a coincidence that the president chose virginia to kick off his re-election campaign saturday. virginia is projected to be a very important swing state in november. a virginia man is charged with threatening to kill president barack obama. court documents show christopher hecker ever one is aboro made death threats against the president and threatened to bomb several buildings including the white house. secret service agents arrested hecker after he was allegedly found making the threats from a public library computer. montgomery county police i say a man killed his own son at an apartment complex near gaithersburg. 55-year-old wayne price shot the 23-year-old in the chest in a third floor apartment on saturday night. matthew price, who was wearing only a towel, staggered downstairs and collapsed outside the building. neighbors say they knew

something bad was going on. >> could you hear what they were arguing about? >> no, but you could hear it was heated. it was loud. >> matthew price was a registered sex offender. at 19 jurors old, he was convicted of forcible sexual contact on a 14 or 15-year-old girl. his father confessed to the shooting. he is charged with first degree murder and is due in court today for a bond hearing. prince george's county police are investigating a fatal hit and run in lewisdale. they say it happened around 9:00 saturday night on university boulevard. the victim is 28-year-old samuel diaz of hyattsville. police are look identifying silver suv with damage to the front of the vehicle. anyone with information is asked to call police. fairfax county police have stepped up its efforts to track down a hit and run driver who killed a woman. police have put up electronic message signs in a mount vernon

a long fight predicted at the 9-11 trials. the arraignment of four defendants at guantanamo bay may be just the start of a long, drawn-out process. both sides say it could continue for years. one defense lawyer says the may date of next year is just a placeholder until a true date

can be set for the trial. new details in the search for a missing tennessee family, a mother and her three daughters. police are trying to identify two bodies found in a mississippi home associated with a man who is suspected of kidnapping a woman and her three young daughters. the fbi says two bodies were found over the weekend but agents aren't releasing many details. a murder mystery unfolding at churchill downs after a man's body was discovered. the body was found in a barn at the historic racetrack sunday morning but it was not in the area that was open to the public during saturday's kentucky derby. investigators believe there was some sort of foul play but it is nil spot clear how this man died. investigator say they are not sure who the man is are where he is. from. you don't see in too often in this part of japan. a tornado tore through a city killing a 14-year-old boy and injuring others. for the most part, the tornado

the clouds are coming in off the ocean. that will keep things relatively cool for this time of year and relatively cloudy. >> i always say it is great photography weather because it evens it out no matter where you're standing. >> the lighting is good. >> i think a little more sunshine later this afternoon. then things get interesting as we get into tuesday and wednesday. interesting meaning chance for thunderstorms with warmer temperatures by tomorrow. there is a live look at your radar. all of the flashing you see off to the north and west, lots of thunderstorms here currently well off to the north and west out towards chicago, stretching down towards st. louis. it is possible we could see some severe weather out here later today. we have a warm front and then a cold front. the warm front will start to move in later tonight. up ahead of it, what is happening is an area of high pressure parked north and east of philadelphia just off the shore. the winds are out of east. we are getting the maritime layer coming in off the ocean. that will keep things relatively cool around here

today. we don't have any rain in the immediate washington area. kind of a mostly cloudy afternoon with high temperatures about 70. i mentioned the warm front and cold front. the warm front will start so slide in with a few showers particularly west and the cold front will get in here tomorrow. we've got rain back in the forecast for our day on tuesday. but up until then, just kind of mostly cloudy skies with high temperatures about 70 degrees. i don't think you need an umbrella for today but tomorrow you will. that is a quick look at the forecast. we are working on the maps. lets see what julie wright has got to offer. i'm rocking the red. >> you are rocking the we had. i don't understand about computer problems. the lanes are open if you are traveling out on 66. coming in, no problems to report leaving fair oaks headed for the capital beltway. right lane is partial l.a. blocked as you work your way out towards 123 and 50. they are in the process of clearing the construction.
